Lead Development Engineer

Saietta is a well-established British R&D company on a mission to accelerate the market introduction of highly innovative, affordable, and reliable propulsion motors for a broad range of electric vehicles (EVs) from scooters to lightweight vehicles. The product is proven, and market pull is strong. Since 2016 Saietta has undertaken rigorous R&D and testing for an innovative, unique motor topology, with low-cost raw materials, designed for low-cost, automated assembly. Saietta is now evolving from a pure R&D company into one that also manufactures its own motors.

Typical involvements:

  • Leading in the definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for the companies range of electric motors and possibly prototype vehicles
  • The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs
  • In turn this may involve supporting the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data
  • Working closely with the test Department Lead Engineers and Technicians who will execute the tests
  • Driving product development SOPs in line with product quality standards

The ideal candidate would be a degree qualified test development engineer that has gained direct experience of the test / development of electric motors or complex electromechanical systems within the automotive, industrial control, rail/rolling stock, or aerospace industry. 

Experience of testing electric motors and leading a small team to do the same, would be a distinct advantage.

Skills / Knowledge Required:

  • Ideally a degree or similar in a relevant subject (e.g., mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, automotive engineering, mechatronics, etc)
  • Experience of the definition, development, planning and implementation of tests for electric motors / complex electromechanical systems
  • The development of test requirements in conjunction with DVP, 8D, and FMEAs
  • Able to support the build and commissioning of test systems and analysis of test data (e.g., motor controller / inverter etc)
  • Experience of failure resolution / problem solving using 8D processes or similar
  • Experience with originating Quality and SOP documents for Test Procedures, DVP, 8D, and FMEA
  • Able to work effectively in a fast paced, small company environment in conjunction with test technicians
  • Good organisational, planning and communication skills
  • Able to ensure that Test Requests / Process are understood, achievable and delivered
  • Able to produce test reports, test data and support DVP activities at project meetings Previous experience within an EV test environment would be preferred

Beneficial skills and experience:

  • Good knowledge and experience of AC electric motors and controller powertrains
  • Good electrical engineering understanding
